For more than 130 years, at MSD we have been working to develop and deliver innovative medicines and vaccines to prevent, treat and relieve patients.However, we also know that we have a social and environmental responsibility to protect the health of patients, communities, the planet, employees, shareholders and our society. For this reason, we work equally systematically to achieve ESG (Environment, Society, Governance) goals.

Our efforts are based on the structural values ​​of our mission: responsibility to the patients and animals who need our treatments and vaccines, respect, inclusion and accountability for our employees, maintaining the highest standards of ethics and integrity, innovation and scientific excellence.

At MSD, we believe in our role and responsibility to contribute to reducing the “burden” of disease and expanding access to medicines and vaccines around the world. For this reason, the third goal (Good Health and Well-being) is at the core of our business activity and is, in fact, human-centered, as we prioritize the patient.

Another important pillar of our strategy focuses on the health and well-being of the people who work at MSD Greece. Our corporate culture is governed by the principles of respect for diversity, inclusion, personal development and well-being to create a “healthy work environment”. Through comprehensive programs and policies that we have developed, we contribute to creating positive working conditions for the most valuable asset of our organization, our employees.

Sustainable development is one of the key priorities in our approach and we will continue to focus on protecting our planet.

At MSD, we demonstrate our commitment to patients and population health every day. We recognize the connection between human, animal and shared environment health and work within the broader One Health approach. The One Health approach has been in the spotlight in recent years due to changes in our society due to the outbreak of zoonotic diseases, the impacts of climate change on the health sector and large population movements. MSD is a biopharmaceutical company that focuses on both human and animal health and prioritizes the One Health approach as a major public health issue. A multi-level and interdisciplinary approach is needed to take action and MSD is expected to participate in the implementation of an action plan aimed at informing, raising awareness and educating the public on these issues.

Specifically in the environmental sector, in recent years we have been intensifying our efforts to operate with the lowest possible impact on the environment and, through our environmental management and compliance, we contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change.

In addition, at a global level, MSD has adopted new climate targets and wishes to effectively respond to the growing expectations of customers, investors, external stakeholders and employees regarding the environmental footprint of its facilities and supply chain.

In Greece, the company follows Law 2939/01, ensuring the recycling of its product packaging, the data of which is submitted to the Hellenic Recycling Association (EEAA) and the Ministry of Environment annually. Furthermore, through the “Recycle Together” program, we ensure the reduction of our environmental footprint. In particular, we aim to reduce the waste generated by the company's activities, as well as to properly manage the waste that arises, through reuse and recycling, so that it is utilized and does not end up in the landfill (Sanitational Waste Landfill).

With the aim of monitoring energy consumption, we record energy consumption on a monthly basis. We monitor temperature, humidity and brightness data through sensors to record high and low temperatures in offices and in areas of high brightness and we have taken measures to improve the conditions.

Finally, every year, within the framework of volunteering activities, we undertake a series of actions that concern the environment and are related to beach cleaning and cleaning of green areas in Attica and Thessaloniki.

ESG Criteria Framework Implementation

Πρόκειται για ένα σαφές πλαίσιο ενσωμάτωσης και εφαρμογής των κριτηρίων ESG (Περιβάλλον, Κοινωνία & Διακυβέρνηση) από τους οργανισμούς για την υπεύθυνη λειτουργία τους, μετρώντας την οικονομική, κοινωνική και περιβαλλοντική τους επίδοση. Οι οργανισμοί δημοσιοποιούν την προσέγγιση και τις επιδόσεις τους στους άξονες της Στρατηγικής, της Διαχείρισης Διαδικασιών, του Περιβάλλοντος και της Κοινωνίας, περιγράφοντας τις πολιτικές και τις διαδικασίες που εφαρμόζουν, απαντώντας σε 20 κριτήρια Βιώσιμης Ανάπτυξης, με σκοπό την αυτοαξιολόγησή τους ως προς το επίπεδο ωριμότητας εφαρμογής των κριτηρίων ESG, τη βελτίωση της ποιότητας των δημοσιοποιήσεων και των επιδόσεών τους και την ανάπτυξη μιας ολιστικής προσέγγισης της βιωσιμότητας στην επιχειρηματική τους λειτουργία.
