Practicing sustainable development and responsible entrepreneurship, considered today to be a best practice globally, has been an integral part of TITAN’s overall business strategic direction and operation since its founding in 1902: a clear focus on the principles of sustainable development which balances between short- and long-term goals and simultaneously designs its policies and practices to promote health and safety at the workplace, the protection of the environment and the active co-operation with stakeholders.

Today, more than ever before, we pursue this full integration of sustainability in business through our international commitments, which include our participation in the UN Global Compact Campaign against corruption and a number of special Task Forces of the WBCSD/CSI (World Business Council for Sustainable Development/Cement Sustainability Initiative), among them those for Biodiversity and Sustainable Supply Chain, which we co-chair.

Sustainability inherently necessitates measures based on forward thinking and the Group has been a pioneer in implementing ground-breaking strategies which focus on understanding, managing and minimizing the impacts of, as well as on capitalizing on the benefits from cement production and usage. These strategies include mitigating global warming and adapting to climate change, using raw materials and fuels efficiently and reducing air emissions, protecting biodiversity and quarry rehabilitation, consuming and using water responsibly and further improving cement sustainability throughout its lifecycle.

A significant pillar of our strategy is the adoption of the “circular economy” model, where competitiveness and the protection of the planet’s non-renewable natural resources go hand in hand. This is our legacy to future generations.

ESG Criteria Framework Implementation

Πρόκειται για ένα σαφές πλαίσιο ενσωμάτωσης και εφαρμογής των κριτηρίων ESG (Περιβάλλον, Κοινωνία & Διακυβέρνηση) από τους οργανισμούς για την υπεύθυνη λειτουργία τους, μετρώντας την οικονομική, κοινωνική και περιβαλλοντική τους επίδοση. Οι οργανισμοί δημοσιοποιούν την προσέγγιση και τις επιδόσεις τους στους άξονες της Στρατηγικής, της Διαχείρισης Διαδικασιών, του Περιβάλλοντος και της Κοινωνίας, περιγράφοντας τις πολιτικές και τις διαδικασίες που εφαρμόζουν, απαντώντας σε 20 κριτήρια Βιώσιμης Ανάπτυξης, με σκοπό την αυτοαξιολόγησή τους ως προς το επίπεδο ωριμότητας εφαρμογής των κριτηρίων ESG, τη βελτίωση της ποιότητας των δημοσιοποιήσεων και των επιδόσεών τους και την ανάπτυξη μιας ολιστικής προσέγγισης της βιωσιμότητας στην επιχειρηματική τους λειτουργία.
