"Our main pursuit is to develop activities in a way that will improve the Group's environmental footprint by 50% by 2030"
In a particularly difficult period, in which the effects of the pandemic and developments in the international economy are intertwined, our main pursuit remains the development of activities in a way that will improve the Group's environmental footprint by 50% by 2030.
The HELLENIC PETROLEUM Group plans and implements its energy transition to cleaner forms of energy and defines its strategy in accordance with the international Sustainable Development Goals of the UN. This strategy focuses on three main axes:
1. Responsible Entrepreneurship for the benefit of society, the economy and the environment.
In the field of Energy and Climate Change, the Group's challenges are very important. We seek to achieve short-term and long-term goals that will improve energy performance and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, maximize recycling and reuse of their waste. Already in the last six years, we have achieved a reduction of up to 50% in basic gas emissions, in accordance with the international Sustainable Development Goals of the UN for Cleaner Energy.
2. Energy Transition and Digital Transformation
The implementation of the strategic plan, which includes the digital and energy transformation, is evolving and is a very important step towards the future for the Group. At the heart of these changes are the upgrading of energy and fuel production infrastructures, with the aim of increasing energy efficiency, reducing CO2 emissions and optimizing the products produced, such as the new low-sulphur marine fuels. The same strategy includes investments in the areas of Renewable Energy Sources and biofuels, the gradual substitution of crude oil with low-footprint raw materials, the research and development of technologies and applications with a low carbon footprint as well as the Group's initiatives in the field of electrification .
3. Contribution to Social Welfare
The priority at this time for our Group is to deal with the test of society due to COVID-19 and to meet its basic needs, since it has been facing many difficulties for several years. In these directions, despite the difficulties of the sector, we contribute by securing jobs, by creating added value for the Greek economy, but also by supporting the local communities in the areas where we operate.
As active members of the UN Global Compact (UNGC) we support and contribute to the dissemination of its Principles, while each of our strategic choices is linked to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
